Name of business: Crumbles Cookies Owners: Greg Yoder and wife Bonnie of Corona City: Corona Address: 1191 Magnolia Ave., Suite C (in the Stater Bros - anchored shopping center close to the I-15). News: The Yoders opened the cookie shop on Nov. 11. They paid for a license to use the recipes and concepts of Russ and Sue Smith, who for decades have operated a successful business called The Cookie Tree in Yuba City. Bonnie Yoder grew up in Yuba City and remembers stopping to buy cookies on her way home from high school. Business concept: Greg Yoder, educated as an engineer, and his wife, who sells college text-books, learned from the Smiths how to bake gourmet cookies daily from scratch. They bake a staple of 10 cookie varieties, such as chocolate chip, peanut butter and oatmeal. Also they offer three more cookie varieties each day. Among their specialties are frosted sugar cookies with colors reflecting the holidays and extra large "monster cookies." Besides cookies, customers can buy muffins, brownies, desert bars, bear claws, danishes, cinnamon rolls and mini bread loafs. Drinks include freshly ground coffee, milk and sodas. Marketing: "We promote ourselves through our cookies," Greg Yoder said. He said to acquaint the community with Crumbles Cookies, they have provided cookies free of charge to the local board of realtors, the Chamber of commerce and some large businesses. He said the shop sold 300 cookies at a promotional discount for a football banquet organized by Santiago High School. The cookies were in the shape of sharks, the school's mascot. |
 Staff: Greg manages the business daily and his wife, Bonnie, pitches in part time. In addition they have hired four counter employees and another baker. Prices: Cookies are $1.30 each or $14.50 for a dozen. Frosted sugar cookies are $1.75 each. Gift packages are priced from $19 to $50.
